Security Council

The UN Security Council is responsible for maintaining international peace and security. It has 15 members, including five permanent members (the U.S., U.K., Russia, China, and France) with veto power, and 10 non-permanent members elected for two-year terms. The Security Council can authorize military action, impose sanctions, and establish peacekeeping missions to address global conflicts. The UN Security Council holds the most power within the United Nations, as it is the only UN body with the authority to make binding decisions that all member states must follow.
