About the Committee

The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, and focuses on global issues related to disarmament, international security, and challenges to global peace. Its mandate includes addressing arms control and the reduction of weapons, while also dealing with security threats such as terrorism, cyber warfare, and regional conflicts. DISEC works to prevent conflict by addressing underlying causes and promotes international treaties related to disarmament and arms trade.

Topic 1: Reinforcing Cybersecurity and Preventing State-Sponsored Cyberattacks

In today’s digital age, cyberattacks have become one of the biggest threats to international security. Attacks on essential systems such as power grids or financial institutions can cause real world harm and increase tensions between countries. This topic invites delegates to explore how nations can strengthen cybersecurity, build trust, and create clear international standards for responsible behavior in cyberspace.

Topic 2: Preventing an International Arms Race in Artificial Intelligence Weaponry

Artificial intelligence is transforming the modern world, including how wars are fought. As AI becomes part of weapons systems, it raises serious ethical and security concerns. Without regulation, countries could find themselves competing to develop increasingly powerful autonomous weapons. DISEC will discuss how to define ethical limits, promote transparency, and prevent the misuse of AI in warfare, ensuring that innovation serves global peace and not destruction.
